ARTIST STATEMENT:

page_04.jpg

 I have a strong belief that art should physically engage the viewer by expanding beyond visual and conceptual contexts. I prefer to accomplish this relationship between art and body through my sculptures and jewelry. My work focuses on design possibilities which allow elements to be interchangeable or movable. With motion being the key component, my work promotes interaction with an observer, or simply its wearer. Found objects, in addition to traditional jewelry materials, are often incorporated into a piece making it more compelling and unique.

Some pieces provide arrangement or motion options, while others simply emphasize or alter the space surrounding them. Interaction, motion, and interchangeability continue to be the emphasis of my exploration. Rather than cautiously observing a work of art from afar, the audience should be stimulated and permitted to interact and explore through touch, in addition to sight. By focusing the design of my work to contain elements which have motion and offer changeability, I am able to further stimulate the importance of interaction between art and the body.

* NEW * PHOTO-ETCHED ARTWORK *

Now introducing the opportunity for you to create a piece of art that is of your own design! All that is needed is your imagination! What you'll need is an image. It can be a business logo, a photograph, a drawing, or anything that is in 2D format. If I can convert it into an all black & white 2D image, I can etch it into COPPER or SILVER!

EXAMPLES BELOW: The first was a designed black & white graphic image of Disney's Space Mountain which was etched into copper for a pendant. The middle image is of a larger scale. This 4"x6" framed etching was originally a photograph which was then converted into a black & white graphic image and later etched in copper. The right image started as a camera drawing created for the design on matching silver friendship bracelets. More samples will be posted soon on the Jewelery Gallery page!

Photo-etching, or chemical milling, is a process which includes specific acidic mixtures which will "eat away" at a particular metal (such as silver or copper) to create a design of choice. By using a resist material, this process can be controlled to create detailed imagry which is etched into the surface of the metal. Prices vary by material, size of the piece, and any additional materials and supplies required for the completion of the commissioned piece.
